Poker Hands and their
in game hand Rankings.
Learning the poker hands and how they rank in a game, is
an absolute 'must' for anyone who is even considering
playing poker for free or for even the lowest cash
stakes..
The best or strongest poker hand is the Royal Flush BUT this
hand is not often seen so players must 'work' with the other
hands in order to win a game of poker.
Poker
Hand Rankings :
Starting with the best poker
hand that a player can have ( The Royal Flush ), the
hands are listed in decending strength order.
By simply keeping a basic copy on a scrap peice of paper or
even printing this page out and keeing it near your pc
whenever you play poker, you will find that in times of
excitement (and it happens regularly in poker ) you can use
it as a quick guide untill you are fluent and automatic in
seeing what hand you have and what cards you will need to
make a better hand or even to see what the other players
cards could be. Then without thinking about it, you will
suddenly realise that you read the hands almost fluently.
....and that's when the real fun in poker starts to
begin and you see that your cockyness in your early game,
was all ....... (that all depends on how you played at first
knowing nothing) and to make any real money as opposed to
just a few dollars here and there you can actually play in a
way that suits you, you will be able to make your mark on
the tables online and play for real.
Ultimately poker is a personal thing, and reasons for
playing poker is a personal thing, like learning Spanish or
German, it's personal as to why you would learn those
languages........so if you want to play poker, learn your
poker hands well and put your own language into the game

1) Royal Flush
|
Nothing can beat this hand,
ever !
All the cards are of the same suit and the ace
is the highest card of the bunch with the remainder
in order and no breaks in the chain. The cards must
be 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace and all the same
suit. A rare hand and a real joy when you get
one.
|

All the same suit from 10 to
Ace
|
|
2) Straight
Flush
|
Not regularly seen and a very
strong poker hand.
All the cards are of the same suit, the cards
MUST be in consecutive order and the higher the
cards the better. Of course !
|

The same suit and ordered
|
|
3) Full House
or
Quads
|
An excellent hand that will
beat the common Flush.
The Full house is a great hand and if two
players should have a fulkl house each, then it's
the player with the highest group of three cards
that will win the hand.
|

3 of 1 and 2 of another
|
|
4) Flush
|
A popular and winning hand
that is regularly seen.
All the cards are of the same suit and in any
order BUT the higher card is the winner when up
against another flush. Ace high wins any flush
draw.
|

All the same suit and unordered
|
|
5) Straight
|
Consecutive numbers of any
suit can often save the day.
All the cards are of ANY suit and the higher
the card values the better. Cards that can be added
either end of a hand to make a straight makes it
open an ended straight and double the chance of
getting all 5 cards.
|

Ordered but with mixed suits
|
|
6) 3 of a Kind
|
A good hand that can win a
lot of pots.
Three cards of the same value can save the day
over and over again. If another player has a
seperate three of a kind as well, then it's the
highest value cards that win.
|

3 of any card of the same value
|
|
7) 2 Pair
|
Looks stronger than it is but
will win many pots.
2 cards of the same value then two more
identicle cards but of a different value to the
other pair. A deceiving hand that is beaten by
three of a kind so caution is often needed.
|

4 cards - 2 seperate values
|
|
7) 1 Pair
|
The higher the pair value the
better.
A pair is only a pair and a low pair is not
great but wins pots.Higher cards are always better
but low cards can win as well.
|

2 cards of any value
|
|
7) High Card
|
A last resort but can win the
pot.
If players don't even have a pair, then it's
the highest card in a players pocket cards that
will win or draw the pot.
|

The highest card in a hand.
|
|
7) High Card
Kicker
|
It pays to have a high spare
card.
If two players both have a pair of 10's. The
winner of the hand in this case will be the player
with the highest spare card which is called the
'kicker'.
In the example left : the hand with the Ace wins as
it acts as the 'kicker' .
|
A -
10 - 10 - 3 - 7
Two hands with a pair of 10's
K - 10 - 10 - 2 -
