Learning how to play poker is easier than you may imagine...

Poker is a very easy game to learn and the basics are enough to allow anyone to go straight in and have a game online or against their friends at home.
New players to the game can be playiong for low cash stakes in no time at all and with the broadly available free play poker, it means that the game can be learned by actually playing it against other people online without the need to lose andy real money.

Poker Rules : The basics.
There a variations of poker and the main game played online and around the world live, is Texas Hold Em.
Texas Hold Em starts with two cards being dealt 'face down' to each player from one deck of 52 cards, then a further five 'community' cards are dealt face up on the table and each player tries to make the best 'five card hand' from a total of even cards and each will bet according to their own hand strength, fold their cards or check and do nothing. Ultimately, each hand will either have a winner or a draw and the winning hands bring the money pot to that player or players..
There are two main types of poker games and that is No Limit or Pot Limit.

No limit poker allows players at anytime to 'go all in' and place all their chips in one single bet.
Where as 'Limit Poker' allows players to only place bets upto a certain amount of chips.

Basic Poker Rules of Texas Hold Em.....

Pocket cards start each hand.
Two cards are dealt to each player at the table.
The cards are dealt face down and each player looks at their cards to see what they have. All the pocket cards stay face down throughout the hand.

The Flop.
Next, the dealer places 3 cards face up in the center of the table. ( All cards dealt in the middle of the table are called community cards and are for all the players to see ).
From these 3 community cards, each player will mentally add their own pocket cards to the community cards and make the best hand he or she can. They will bet, check or fold depending on strength of the hand they each have.

The Turn
After the players have stopped betting, the dealer will place another card along side the other three community cards already on the table. This 4th card is called the Turn.
Betting will start again and players will bet, check or fold, again depending on their hand strength.

The River.
The fifth and final community card dealt on the table face up, is called the River.
The river is the final part of the hand and players will go into betting mode again, fold or not do anything, ready for what is known as the showdown with the best hand winning the pot.

The winning player takes the pot and can choose whether to show his or her cards when they win but if the winner has placed a bet and any other player matches or 'calls' the bet, then the cards are allowed to be shown to the table.

When a player doesn't show his cards he will 'muck' them back to the dealer face down but players can show their cards at any time depending on what tactics they want to play.

And that is the very basics of how to play poker.
The principal of the game is to win by having the best hand possible OR a player may 'bluff' the other players by placing high bets even though he may not have a hand at all, in the hope that the other players will believe he has a strong hand and they fold their own then sit out of the remainder of the hand in play untill the next hand is dealt and the procedure starts over again.
